Sallie Chisum was an early settler in this area, and helped to found
the village of Miller, later known as Stegman, and finally known
as Artesia. She served as our first postmistress, and is memorialized
in a statue on Artesia's Main Street. The Museum is proud to house
a collection of her diaries, dating from 1908-1929. Access to these
diaries and their transcripts is restricted. Researchers should
contact the Museum well in advance of their visit to make special
arrangements with the Director. |
